Environment and cleanup

Clear materials. Clear process.

Our water-event language stays specific: LED-lit paper lanterns, a monitored release, and a post-event retrieval crew.

Water lanterns are not sky lanterns

Current water events use paper lanterns illuminated by LED lights. They float on the water’s surface and do not include an open flame or a sky-lantern fuel cell.

What happens after the release

Event staff monitors the release area and retrieves lanterns from the water after the program. Crews also collect visible event debris in the operating area. LED components are reused or recycled when practical.

How we make environmental claims

We do not describe an outdoor event as having “no impact,” and we do not make categorical biodegradability or scientific-testing claims without publishing the supporting documentation. As material specifications, independent testing, fire-retardancy records, recovery rates, and cleanup reports become available, they should be linked from this page.
